Born and raised in Oakland, California, Bay Area artist Yung Cheeze represents the resilience and creativity that define the city’s culture. Growing up in a single-parent household with three siblings, Yung Cheeze was exposed early to both struggle and strength. While attending Prescott Elementary School and later graduating from Rudsdale Academy, he found direction through music.
His journey began in church at just eight years old, where he served as a lead singer in the choir. That early foundation gave him discipline, vocal confidence, and a deep appreciation for music’s emotional power. By age 14, Yung Cheeze was already producing beats, and by 15, he was writing and recording original music — laying the groundwork for a lifelong commitment to his craft.
Surrounded by gang violence and poverty, music became more than a passion — it became a way out. Today, Yung Cheeze stands as a product of perseverance, using his story to inspire others to rise above circumstance.
