Marcus The Messiah: Turning Poetry Into Purpose
From the moment Marcus The Messiah discovered the magic of words, he knew he was destined for something creative. Growing up in San Antonio, Texas, Marcus was surrounded by music that shaped his soul from an early age. His father played everything from Mary J. Blige to the Black Eyed Peas and Kid Cudi, giving him a deep appreciation for sound, rhythm, and storytelling. That musical foundation stayed with him, but it was poetry that first lit the spark. “I got into poetry when I started elementary school,” Marcus recalls. “I liked the way you could make it sound almost like a song. So I thought, why not make a song and record it? Boom, an artist was born.” What began as a creative experiment soon became a calling, and Marcus The Messiah started developing his own voice and identity through music. For Marcus, music is more than entertainment. It is a way to process life, connect with others, and express emotions that are often hard to put into words. His lyrics explore themes of mental health, love, and self-discovery, reflecting the struggles and triumphs that define him. At only 23 years old, he already understands that art can heal, not just the artist but the listener too. His upcoming project, 21st Century, which is set to drop soon, is a deeply personal body of work. The seven-song EP reflects his battles with mental health and his ongoing journey toward self-acceptance. “It talks about mental health, love, and the crazy world we live in,” Marcus explains. “In my song I Love Myself, I have a chant toward the end that’s meant to help listeners affirm positive thinking about themselves.” The project represents his growth both as a person and as an artist. He has learned to turn his challenges into art and his pain into purpose. Marcus also founded N/A, a community and future record label that stands for Never Accepted, Never Appreciated, Never Alone, and Never Around. The name symbolizes the struggles of people who often feel misunderstood or unseen. “That’s my community,” he says proudly. “One day, I want to make it a record label that supports artists who share that same message.” Marcus has also been collaborating with artists who share his vision and authenticity. He has songs with RLP Son, an actor and musician from San Antonio, as well as Lu Rock, a longtime friend and collaborator. He is also working with Jit from Duval, another artist he grew up with. Together, they are working toward making N/A a movement that goes beyond music. Through his words and experiences, Marcus The Messiah reminds his listeners that it is okay to struggle and that growth often comes from pain. His story is one of transformation, honesty, and hope. Every lyric he writes carries a message that someone out there needs to hear. In his world, music is not just a sound; it is therapy, connection, and purpose wrapped into rhythm and rhyme.
